RAILWAY EARNINGS

SMALL INCREASE SHOWN WORKING PROFIT OF £51,980 [by telegraph—OWN correspondent"!* "WELLINGTON. Thursdsv A result bettering that for the corresponding period of last year by some £BSO was shown by the railway working accounts for the four weeks ended November 10. Full details, supplementing an official statement published on December 1, appeared in to-night's Gazette. The working profit was £51,981, compared with £51,132 last year.

The gross receipts for the four weeks were £467,415, an of £20,156, while expenses were £415,434, an increase of £19,307. The recent increase in salaries and wages was responsible for £11,300 of tho increased expenditure.

Earnings by tho North Island railways amounted to £249,681, an increase of £5691, and expenses to £224,715, an increase of £10,367. Tliero was a net profit of £24,966, compared with £25,656, a decrease of £690.

Receipts front the South Island railways were £163,911, an increase of £13,061, and expenses were £161,564, or £6637 higher. A profit of £2347 replaced a working loss of £4077. Miscellaneous revonue amounted' to £53,823 and expenditure to £29,155, there being a net yield of £24,668, a decrease of £899 on last year. For the period from April 1 to November 10 the net revenue was £348,416, as against £357,589 last year. The gross revenue was £3,719,253, an increase of £222,31)0. Tho expenditure was £3,370,837, compared with £3,139,274, an increase of £231,563.
