PHILISTINES CLUB
FINAL ENTERTAINMENT The final gathering of the Philistines Club for this year, held in the Amateur Operatic Society's hall on Saturday evening, was a most enjoyable function. The chairman was Mr. J. Saunders, who was accpmpanied by Mrs. Saunders, wearing a frock of Naples blue crepe suede. The first part of the programme consisted of a "mock court," which was followed by an excerpt from "The Rivals," presented by the Victoria League's Entertainment Circle, with Miss Mavis McCulloch as producer. The cast was as follows: —Lydia Languish, played by Miss Linda De Renzy; Mrs. Malaprop, by Miss Mary Cruiekshank; Lucy, by Miss Mary Pilkington; Sir Anthony Absolute, by Mr. Tim Wright; Captain Absolute, by Mr. Brian Fisher Betts The remainder of the programme comprised songs by Mrs. Lan Simson 'and Mr. S. Duncan, two 'cello solos by Dr. Trevor de Clive Lowe and some humorous recitations by Mr. Alan McEhvain. Various novelties were distributed during the latter part of the evening.
