TAXING IMPERIAL PENSIONS

Sir, —In reply to the letter of .Mr. Clias. Chappell in Monday's Herat r>, I am an Imperial pensioner with an inadequate allowance for five of us to live on. 1 have been out of work for over three years and refused relief work on account of this pension. 1 have to pay at the rate of £1 2s Gd per month arrears and current instalments, also £1 per year levy for unemployment purposes . The exchange on this pension is also assessed and termed income. That means I pay one shilling in the pound on the exchange as well. Is it any wonder my comrade, "Disillusioned," is clearing out. I only wish I could, but circumstances keep me here for the term of my natural life. Having stated my case, what earthly good is the exchange to me. R.I.C.
