HIGH LEGAL COSTS
Sir, —The time is overdue for the New Zealand Law Society to reduce the scale of charges for conveyancing. Reference was made recently to the Wellington branch proposing a reduction to onethird of the present foes. Mr. Thomas, president of the Canterbury Law Society, is reported to have stated that the matter had received the attention of various law societies, and although his society had reduced the conveyancing charges to meet the times, dissatisfaction was expressed at the high conveyancing charges, particularly in the North Island. No doubt should the Government suggest establishing a State conveyancing department legal fees would soon be reduced. Justice.
