BOYS WAGES AND TAXES
Sir, — I would like to know when our boys and girls under the age of 20 are to have their cuts restored. Parliamentarians, civil servants, etc., etc., who are in constant employment have had their restoration retrospective. Then why not the young mainstay of the country. Some of our young boys and girls have been walking the shoes off their feet looking for work for months, and if they are lucky enough to get a 'position, get a knock-back-as soon as they receive their first wages, having a cut kept back. Take mv case, ns only one instance: Am a widow, but get no pension, as 1 have not been 20 years in New Zealand. My son is I*. He could not get work in town two vears ago. after being at the Technical School for two years. So he pleaded with me to let him take a farm position 180 miles from home. His wage was os a week and he was paid monthly, receiving 16s a month, the Government taking 4s out of the pound earned. In August of this year he wrote such a cheery letter, saying. "I'll be able to send you a little extra soon! No cut after September." Hut Mr. Coates says now it w.as just a "proposal." (i rev Lynn .i M. Paton.
