LOVER OF HORSES
WELL-KNOWN GIRL RIDER WEDDING IN QUEENSLAND As the bride has been selected by the Royal National Association as one of two women to give a demonstration of camp drafting before the Duke of Gloucester, considerable interest was attached to a wedding which took place at Inverai, Queensland, on October 9, when Mr. Charles C. Thompson, of Chevrot Hills, was married to one of the leading women riders in Queensland and New South Wales, Miss May Wood, of Warra. Horseshoes were prominent in the decorative scheme. Miss Wood won the first prize as a girl rider in the Brisbane Exhibition when seven years of age, and up to the age of 16, when she was awarded second place, was. only once defeated. She was equally successful in the Sydney Show ring. In campdrafts Miss Wood was also very successful. She won the Downs ladies championship at Jandowae three years ago. Recently Mr. H. J. Winten, of Rosalie, presented Miss Wood with So ill ton. which ran second in the Caulfield Cup a few years ago, and she intends to try him as a hunter. She trains her horses on her father's property at Warra, and has been devoted to horses all her life. Her husband is also a noted show ring performer and rough rider 111 Queensland and New South Wales. He holds the record for a water jump, made at Killarney with X Ray three years ago.
The bridesmaid was Miss Kathleen Dalzell, winner of a number of cainpdrafts on Mr. Blanchard's well-known horses. At Warwick recently she won the ladies' championship. The wedding breakfast was held at the residence of the bride's parents, surrounded by a magnificent array of cups and trophies that were tributes to the bride's triumphal march in the show ring. The bride intends to continue with her show performances.
