BALLOTS FOR LAND
AREAS NEAR KIRIKOPUNI APPLICANTS FOR TWO SECTIONS Two sections of land, both situated in tho vicinity of Kirikopuni, were balloted for at a meeting of the North Auckland Land Board. There were 26 applicants for an area of 325 acres in Whangarei County, seven miles from Kirikopuni railway station, on the Parakao-Kirikopuni metalled road. The successful applicant was Mr. G. Petley. of Whatawhata. The capital value of the land is £325, and tho half-yearly rental is £6 10s. The area comprises 20 acres of tea-tree scrub, 80 acres of fern and 25 acres of bush from which all the milling timber has been removed. The remaining 200 acres consists of fern and scattered grass, the country being hilly and broken and the soil fair to poor clay and semi-pipeclay resting on sandstone. A neighbouring property of 464 acres of similar country, with a capital value of £465 and a half-yearly rental of £9 6s, went to Mr. D. P. B. Cotterill, of Kaino, out of 19 applicants. This block is made up of about 75 acres of tea-tree, 125 acres of fern, 60 acres of scattered bush, and 204 acres of fern and scattered grasses, mostly paspalum. There were no applicants for a block of 88 acres, of a capital value of £IOO, situated in the Mangonui County, 12 miles from Awanui, on the Great North Road. This area will be open for selection at the next meeting of the Land Board.
