INCREASE IN STAKES

AUCKLAND TROTTING CLUB EVENTS AT SUMMER MEETING An increase of £1715 in prize-money, making the total stakes for the three days £7060, compared with £5335 last year, has been decided upon by the committee of the Auckland Trotting Club for the summer meeting, to be held on December 27, 29 and 31. In honour of the visit of the Duke of Gloucester, the principal event bears the title of the Auckland Royal Trotting Cup, and the stake has been increased by £SOO to £1250, including a gold cup valued at £SO. The class has been tightened from 4.30 to 4.27.

The racing will be done entirely on the old course, except that the new and improved bend going out of the straight will be in use. Otherwise, all the contract work for the new course has been done off the course proper. Twc. steeplechase jumps, tho eleagnus hedge and the jump at the head of the straight have gone, and will be replaced by brush fences on the course proper. Apart from this, the steeplechase course remains the same. Acceptances for the first day close at 8 p.m. to-day with Messrs. Blomfield and Company, Auckland, or the secretary, Mr. H. Poland. Paeroa. AWAPUNI ACTIVITIES CANDIDATES FOR FOXTON . [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] PALMERSTON NORTH, Thursday Conditions were excellent for training operations at Awapuni this morning, the going being firm and fast, and most of the candidates for the Foxton meeting were given fast work. Catalogue, picked up beyond the seven furlongs post by Round Score, completed a mile in 1.45. He ran liia first five furlongs in 1.4 3-5. Lord Moutoa and Palm Lad a battle all the way up the atraight to finish five furlongs in 1.5 1-5, the former being a short neck in front at the post. Good Hunting moved very smoothly over seven furJongs in 1.32. Inveresk finished a length clear of Boudoir over seven furlong's in 1.34 4-5. the first two in 26s and four in 5.1 3-sa. Aiguille, who is looking bright and well after his easy time, was given his second sprint since his return, and held Ebeum over half a mile in 53 4-ss, after taking 14 4-5s for the first furlong. Bodyline jumped away quickly to lead into the straight, but the latter then ran past him to finish two or three lengths in front after running five furlongs in 1.4 4-5. Bodyline s early speed enabled him to lcovo thft first, two furlongs behind iti 25 l-ss, but he stopped quickly. King Thomond and Morratli covered five furlongs, the Inst three in 40s. time which the former could have betfiyriicony jumped away more smartly than Legatee and finished a neck in front over three furlongs in 38s. It was a good performance in view of fact that _they running into a stiff wind. Alchemic, a stable companion of Legatee, galloped half a hiile with Going Gay and # finished # on more strongly to complete his task in 53 4-ss. after taking 14 2-5« for the first furlong. Round Up. Rompalong and Pomposity finished at two-lengths intervals, the brother to Bodyline displaying the family pace by dashing to the front early. Although Romyalong moved up in the straight, Round Up drew away again to finish in 38 2-ss. Sandy Dix registered nn excellent performance over a round of the battens, jumping very fast. The Storm Wind fulfilled a similar task, but did not appear to appreciate the hurdles as much as he does the steeplechase fences. Calydon was also jumped, but hesitated at the fences.
