ONE-SIDED CONTEST

Y.M.C.A. DEFEATS ONEHUNGA A drab and one-sided exhibition of football was witnessed in the meeting of Y.M.C.A. and Onehunga in the main fixture at Blandford Park, the former winning by a margin of seven goals. Owing to the marked disparity between the teams the interest was never maintained and it ■was only at intervals that the spectators •v/ere treated to anything like senior grade football. Onehunga, starting with characteristic dash, appeared likely to make a Bteru fight for the points and in the early stages whs a. goal to the good. After this, however, indiscriminate passing by the forwards and faulty placing by the halves prevented the Onehunga team from settling down and tor the greator part of the time it had to be content with attempting to frustrate tho efforts of tho opposition. Y.M.C.A. gave a fairly good display in the first spell, but when it realised the poor strength of the opposition eased in its methods. Coltman and Chapman stood out for good defensive and constructive play among the Y.M.C.A. backs, the former giving the -opposing forwards little scope owing to his woirying tactics. McFarlane was in splendid form on the left wing. Of the other forwards, Kiggans and Hamilton were the most forceful. In goal for Onehunga. Gavan effected some good saves, buT was a trifle uncertain in his handling. Webster and Blockley had nn amount of work to do. the latter being more impressive in the manner in which he secured possession from the opposing forwards. Woodhall and Sager were below form in the halves, while Buss, although active both cn defence and attack, lacked the knowledge of when to part with the ball. Donaldson and Cumming, who appeared to be Onehunga's most dangerous forwards, did not have sufficient support. McFarlane (2). Riggans (2). Hamilton. Humphreys and Chapman scored for Y.M.C.A., while Sager kicked one into his own net. Lindsay scored for the losers. Mr. R. C. Brighton was referee.
