PONSONBY'S BETTER CONDITION The meeting of Ponsonby and Mount Albert on No. 2 ground roused more than ordinary interest, and the crowd whioh lined the fence was rewarded with an exciting finish. When time was called the score was equal, 11-all. Two spells of five minutes each way were ordered, and splendid football re.sulted. The bettdr condition of Ponsonby gave the team victory. In tho last four minutes a fine try bv Hutt, followed shortly nfter by a try by Whorskey, placed the result beyond doubt. Mount Albert, strengthened by the inclusion of several Marist players, and Hardgrave and Dempsey, of Newton, was by no means outclassed. Ponsonby took a long time to settle down, especially the backs," who seemed disorganised. The passing in the first half was very erratio. It was from Ponsonby'e mistakes that the Mount Albert backs scorod tries. The first try for Mount Albert, scored by Hardgrave, was a particularly fine effort. Mount Albert was easily tho better team in the first half, and the score should have been larger in its favour. For the winners, Hutt, captain, was tho outstanding player. The wings, Jones and Whorskey, were prominent on many occasions. Both Halloran and Riley played good football in the second half. McLeay and Davis played well among the forwards. L. Schultz was tho best back for Mount Albert. Hardgrave did well with limited opportunities. Herring and Allen were the best of the forwards. For Ponsonby. McLeay (2), Jones. Hutt and Whorskey scored tries. Jones convorted two. For Mount. Albert. B. Schultz scored two tries, and Hardgrave one. Herring converted one try. Mr. S. Billman was referee.
