TEAMS' CHAMPIONSHIP ANOTHER WIN FOR SAVIDAN An excellent field of about 140 runners started in tbo Auckland barrier teams' championship race of 10,000 metres, held at the Avondale racecourse on Saturday. The individual race resulted in another win for J. W. Savidan, while Lynndale, la.st year's winners, easily retained the teams' championship. The course led half-way Tound the racecourse, und then across broken uphill country for about a milp. returning in a wide circle to the racecourse. Rain had made the going very heavy, {jiving an advantage to those wearing spikes, while numerous fences tested to the full the runners' knowledge of cross-country work. After running to the racecourse, the course led across the ground and round a second short lap, covering some of the ground previously travoraed. finishing with another half circuit of tlio racecourse. Briggs .lumped into tho lead at the start, nnd for the first mil© led from Savidau, Valder. E. Littler and Hill. Savidan took the lead before tho end of tho first lap. however, and coming on to the racecourse for the first time, ho was some distance ahead of Briggs. Valder. Hill. Birtwhistle, Mackenzie. Harding. Neil. E. Littler, Hewitson, Crompton. McCarthy, Clow, Andrews, Ilaszard and Fowlds. Savidan increased his lead in the second lap. and finally won by lm Is from Valder. who beat Briggs by 2s and Hill by 5s in a close finish. Mackenzie, fourth, improved considerably on hie showing the road race, but Neil, eixth, dropped back three places. A. Browne, one of last season's outstanding runners, again failed to reproduce his previous form, coming only 17th. Better knowledge of the course stood Lynndale in good stead, and it won by a wide margin from Papatoetoe rind Auckland. Tecluiical Old Boys' Club, although without tho.services of several of its best men. was disappointing, while University, which was also without somo of its team, also failed to maintain the position it held last year. Presbyterian showed _ improved form, and should soon be offering eerious opposition to the older clubs. Wesley also improved on last year and defeated Calliope for last place. The Lynndale team occupied 3rd. 11th. lGth. 17th. 10th. 20th, 23rd, 2Gth. 29tU and 30th positions. Detailed results are:— Individual Championship.—J. W.
