PRICE OF FERTILISER
"A PIQUANT SITUATION" LITTLE CONCERN IN TRADE The announcement by the Minister of Agriculture, the Hon. C. E. Macmillan, that if any fertiliser is solij. at £4 3s 6d a ton he proposed to take action appears to have caused little concern in the trade in Auckland. Distributors of superphosphates have charged this week and are still charging farmers £4 3s 6d a ton, in line with the new price announced by the manufacturers.
" The situation is a rather piquant one," said a distributor yesterday. "In Wellington., the Minister is threatening to invoke the Board of Trade Act if such a thing occurs, while in Auckland it has been occurring for .the past four days."
The manufacturers have no comment to make regarding the Minister's latest announcement. They again assert that the next move lies with .the Government.
