MAN BREAKS SHOP WINDOW UNDER INFLUENCE OF DRINK "I was unconscious of doing it wilfully; I think I slipped and fell against it," said William Anson Reid, aged 53, bootmaker, in the Police Court before Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., yesterday when charged with committing mischief by wilfully breaking a plate-glass window, the, property of Len Kelly, and valued at £1 ss. Accused was also charged with being drunk in Hobson Street and with procuring liquor during the currency of a prohibition order. To these two charges he pleaded guilty. Evidence was given that accused was seen to strike and break the shop window with his hand.

Accused was ordered to pay the amount of the damage, 255, on the charge of breaking the window, and was fined £2 on the charge of a breach of his prohibition order. On the charge of drunkenness ho was fined 10s. "I was under the inlluenec of liquor at the time and did not realise what T was doing," was the explanation given by James Benson, aged .''o, labourer, in pleading guilty to a charge of stealing seven snooker balls belonging to William Paull and valued at ,C 7. Benson also pleaded guilty to a charge of being drunk in Victoria Street. The magistrate remanded accused in custody until this morning in order to obtain a report from the probation officer.
