GRASS PLOTS IN STREET
PROPOSAL IN GISBORNE
MOTION TO BE RESCINDED
[by telegraph—OWN correspondent] GISBORNE, Wednesday
Having provided one of the most controversial of municipal matters of recent years, the proposal to lay down grass plots in the middle of Gladstone Road, between Disraeli and Grey Streets, in lieu of replacing the roadway in bitumen, is not now likely to be proceeded with.
The borough council last evening received the legal opinion of the solicitor to the Municipal Association, which appeared to satisfy the council that it would be unwise to proceed with tho scheme. It was indicated that if the council proceeded with the work it rendered itself liable to an injunction to restrain it from carrying out the work and to the payment of compensation to adjoining property owners.
The legal opinion was briefly discussed and a notice of motion to rescind the resolution authorising the laying down of the plots was given.
