TEACHING OF ART
GIFT TO AUCKLAND BOOKS AND EQUIPMENT THE CARNEGIE CORPORATION A set of .art teaching equipment, including about 200 books, has been allocated to the Auckland University College by the Carnegie Corporation of New York, according to a letter received by the college council yesterday from the president of the Carnegie Corporation. The allocation is based on the understanding that the set will be made available, with the assistance of the City Council, to further all aspects of arb teaching in the community. Tli3 first shipment is expected to reach Auckland from the United States shortly. The president of the college council, .Mr. Kenneth Mackenzie, said the gift was largely due to negotiations by th') registrar of the college, Mr. M. It (VShea, while in America, and the city librarian, Mr. John Barr. It was decided to thank the Carnegie Corporation for its generosity. On the recommendation of the executive committee of the professorial beard it was decided to adopt for the current year's budget a grant of £2OO for the acquisition of science periodicals.
