RECOVERY ACT
PUNISHMENT FOR BREACH TAILOR'S CUT PRICES (Received April 22, 5.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, April 21 What is believed to be the first term of imprisonment for a violation of the National Recovery Act has been imposed on a Jersey City tailor. He was sentenced to 30 days in gaol and fined 100 dollars for charging 35 cents to press a suit, compared with the N.R.A. code minimum of 40 cents. The tailor maintained a small shop and had no helpers. He said he supported his .family on a limited business which he was able to attract only by cutting his prices below those of big operators. The court expressed sympathy with "the defendant, but insisted that the law must be enforced.
