LINCOLNSHIRE HANDICAP WIN

OWNER'S FIRST TURF ' VENTURE

Mr. M. I. Simon, owner cf the shire Handicap winner Play On, had not . previously liad his colours carried on a racacourse. He was formerly a hotel proprietor at Capetown, but has now settled in Eng--land. He said he had a nice bet about Play . 1 ' On, who was also extensively backed in „ South Africa; in fact, several thousands of pounds invested on him .there had to be laid o2 in England. * ' It is rare that an owner enjoys such * novices' luck as to win a big race on the first occasion his colours are, carried. Mr. Charles Schwartz, an American, had similar fortune when he won the Grand National in 192S with Jack Horner, a horse which he 'had bought for £IOOO with that object specially in view.
