THE SANDERS CUP.
CONTEST AT LYTTELTON AUCKLAND NOT REPRESENTED REGRET FELT AT ABSENCE [llY TELEGRAPH OWN CORRESPONDENT] CHBISTCHURCH, Friday The . fourteenth annual contest for tho Sanders Memorial Cup for 14ft. oiii3-design X class sailing boats ivill start ort Monday at Lyttclton. Crews antl Supporters from all parts of Now Zealand are already gathering at the port, and generally a great deal of interest is being shown in the event. The crows are:—Otago: I. McGrath (skipper), J. McLaren, R. Kennedy and E. Cutlibort. Southland: H. Hansen (skipper), W. Hamilton, W. Pollock and H. Gougk. Canterbury: Eliot Sinclair (skipper), F. Forman (spinnaker hand), S. Fisher and H. May. Wellington: N. C. Blair (skipper), J. Elliot (spinnaker hand), P. Harlen and R, Julian. For the first time since the contost was inaugurated Auckland will not be represented this year, the Auckland Association so far having refused to join tho Yachting Council. It is to be regretted that the province in which the contest was first held, and which won the cup on four occasions, has not seen fit to join in with the other provinces. Last year Auckland was represented by an excellent crew, which was handicapped with a 12-year-old restricted class boat. Although they did not win a :race, there was no more capable or popular crew in the contest, and supporters of yachting in Lyttelton would have liked to have seen the three Rogers brothers and W. Clare back again this year. The boats are:—lrene (Canterbury), Lavina (Wellington), Eileen (Otago), and Val (Southland). Irene will defend the cup.
