GOVERNMENT i ASSISTANCE [by telegraph—own* correspondent] THAMES, Tueiiday At a recent meeting of the Coromandel Miners and Prospectors' Association a letter was received from the Minister of Mines, the Hon. C. E. Macmillan, acknowledging the association's thanks for his successful efforts in obtaining the art union grant of £250. Tho Minister stated that he would endeavour to obtain a further grant of £SOO for tho benefit of tho association from an art union that would be hold shortly. Tho Minister also wrote regarding the gold payments, explaining that gold was hold iu the hank at Thames until sufficient was on hand to warrant smelting and shipment abroad. Now the bank had been instructed to forward parcels of gold to tho Dunedin bank fortnightly, and this arrangement; had simplified matters.
