NEW ZEALAND COMPANY CONFERENCE AT HAMILTON [fkom our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Tuesday Thcro was a largo attendance of conveners of suppliers' committees connected with the New Zealand Co-opera-tive Dairy Company, Limited, at a conference held in Hamilton to-day. Mr. Dynes Fulton, chairman of directors, presided. A remit advocating that the Government arrange for the retail sale of sodium chloride at not more than 3d per lb. was carried. The opinion that the transport licensing authorities were going too far in restricting cream cartage contractors from taking back loads of goods where no other services existed was expressed by Mr. F. E. Phillips. "Mr. Fulton,said the company was watching the position. A remit was carried urging that the present embargo on the importation of stock bo not altered. ELECTION OF DIRECTOR RETIRING MEMBER DEFEATED [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Tuesday A record poll was recorded at the election of a director of tho New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company, Limited, to fill the vacancy in the Waitoa, Ward caused by the retirement by rotation of Mr. P. H. Saxton, of Tatuanui. The candidates were Mr. Saxton and Mr. F. Hayward/'of Ngarua. Mr. Hayward was elected. Ho received 66,192 votes, and Mr. Saxton 48,884, Mr. Hayward's majority being 7308 votes. THE ANNUAL SMOKE CONCERT A REPRESENTATIVE GATHERING! Numerous representative visitors were present, including the Hon. C. E. Macmillan, Minister of Agriculture; Mr. J. R. Fow, Mayor of Hamilton; Mr. W. Goodfellow, managing director of Amalgam.ited Dairies; Mr. W. M. Singleton, director of the dairy division; and Messrs. F..Lye and D, Stewart Reid, M.P.'s. Among the speakers were Messrs. McMillan, Goodfellow, Fulton, Fow, Reid, C. J.Parlane and the successful directors at the recent election. A delightful programme of musical and elocutionary items was submitted. WANGANUI DAIRYING A SUBSTANTIAL INCREASE [by TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] "V7ANGANUI, Tuesday There has been a substantial increase in dairying in the Wanganui district during recent years, and the development is continuing this season. During the winter two factories found it necessary to instal new- machinery to cope with the increase in supplies, the capacity last season being taxed to the utmost. Tho increase is due largely to former sheepfarmers turning their attention to dairying, and to tho use of manures. A few years ago two local companies had combined output of 500 tons, but last season .the output was 1665 toias.
