FORBES IN CANADA EXTENSION OF TREATY BUTTER SHIPMENTS MATTER |3y Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received August 22, 5.5 p.m.) OTTAWA, Aug. 21 It was learned to-day that the conrersations between the Prime Minister Kf Now Zealand, Mr. G. W. Forbes, and Members of tho Canadian Government lit the week-end wore highly satisfaclory. Tho export of New Zealand butter lo Canada is one of tho chief difficulties in the trade relations of the two Dominions. If largo quantities were imported into Canada it is feared that ihey might break the prices for Canadian dairymen. It is doubtful if any announcement frill bo mado about the conversations until Mr. Forbes returns to New Zealand and discusses the matter with his colleagues. A message from Vancouver states that in the lengthy, heart-to-heart conrersations between Mr. Forbes and Canadian Ministers irritation over Canada's treatment of some of New Zealand's butter shipments held tho first place. Mr. Forbes did not object lo much to the restrictions imposed by Uio treaty as to the sudden application of the dumping clause by Canada Dn shipments regularly going to Vancouver. Undtfr a new arrangement, details Of which Mr. Forbes will take home Kith him, the Canadian Government Will keep New Zealand exporters fully lidvised several months ahead as to how they sliould govorn their shipping schedules. In any case the treaty between tho two Dominions is to bo renewed in November for another year, with slight modifications.

A telegram from Toronto says Mr. Forbes •was given a reception" in the City Hall Square to-day, when he gave lin Empire message to the people who ißllecl the square. " The Empire must grow into an even closer national and economic Unit,"' said Mr. Forbes. He accepted H flag from the city to hang in -the Memorial Hall of the Waitaki High School, Oamaru. Mr. Forbes paid a tribute to the Prime Minister of Canada, Mr. R. B. Bennett, saying he had been a great help to him at the Economic Conference and the Imperial Conference. "We looked upon him as our champion," (laid Mr. Forbes.

Exporters of butter attach little importance to the statement that the Canadian Government will keep them advised as to shipping schedules.
