RELIEF CAMP SERVICES
ACTIVITIES OF CHURCHES NORTH AUCKLAND PRESBYTERY [from our own correspondent] WHANGAREI, Thursday The North Auckland Presbytery, at its quarterly meeting yesterday, received a letter from the convener and superintendent of the Home and Maori Mission committee asking the Presbytery to accept responsibility with regard to conducting services in the unemployment camps within the bounds of the presbytery. It was pointed out that co-operative effort on tho part of the various churches should be possible, each denomination taking charge of specific camps, thereby preventing overlapping, and reducing costs to a minimum. The Presbytery decided that each Presbyterian Church treasurer throughout the bounds of the presbytery be asked to arrange retiring collections to provide tho necessary funds in order that services can be provided in any camp under the charge of a Presbyterian minister or missioner, and that the llevs. W. Elliott and C. Brierly be appointed a %üb-committeo to dispense these funds. It was stated that most of the unemployment camps established in North Auckland were receiving religious service by some church. Tho majority of the camps were many miles distant from any centro and the cost of transport of ministers in conducting services was heavy. The object in raising a fund was to cover the cost of transport and other expenses and to give more frequent services.
