Morgan, bank accountant, of Street, shortly before dawn, and there was an exciting chase of the two involved. It was surmised they had another motive than searching the home for valuables, for subsequently the telephone was found plugged. Awakening at 5.30 a.m., Mrs. Morgan saw the dim outline of a man_silhouetted against a window by a dressing table in the bedroom. Thinking it was her husband, she called to him. inquiring why he was up at such an early hour, only to discover that it was a stranger. She immediately gave the alarm. Springing out of bed, Mr. Morgan made a rush at the intruder, who raced downstairs and out the front door, making,a clear escape. He was joined by a companion, who had apparently been waiting at the front gate. Subsequently a small purse was found lying empty on the floor and £6 was missing. A fur coat which the intruder had picked up in the house was found lying over a chair. He had not time to secure anything else. It was later found that the telephone had been carefully plugged.
Mr. Morgan was considerably bruised from collision with parts of the stairs in his almost headlong descent after the intruder. He was about to make a final dive at the burglar when lib slipped and fell outside. Meanwhile, the burglar, with the pursuing householder right at his heels, did riot make his exit through the gate conveniently flung open for him by his companion. Instead, lie raced across the lawn, scaled a fence, ran across an adjoiniug vacant section, and disappeared over another fence. Mrs. Morgan pluckily followed her husband- in the chase. She is now suffering somewhat from shock. The burglar had gained access to the house through a window downstairs, where he had slipped the catch,.
