JAPAN AND BRITAIN PROPOSED DISCUSSIONS British Wireless RUGBY, July 25 In a statement about - the possible convening of a conference between British and Japanese industrialists in regard to Japanese trade competition, Dr. E. L. Burgin, Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Trade, said a reply was sent on July 20 to the recent Japanese Note on the subject. The Tokio Government had indicated that the Japanese interests concerned had agreed, subject to certain limitations which had sinco formed the subject of an informal discussion, to proposed meetings between representatives of industries as far as they related to cotton textiles. The proposal under consideration was that there be a tripartite discussion in India shortly between representatives of the industries concerned of Lancashire, India and Japan, covering the whole field of all classes." of textiles in which those countries were interested. These discussions would relate to the Indian market and the British colonial markets in which India was interested. The proposal was made on the understanding that the discussions in India would be followed immediately by discussions in Britain, in regard to other textile markets, botvreen industrial representatives of Britain and Japan. •The British Government sincerely hoped that Japan would be able to accept this proposal and that a satis&r factory agreement would he reached.
