FINANCIAL SUCCESS
LONG THEATRICAL TOUR RECORD FOR 20 YEARS The longest tour made by any J. C. Williamson touring company in NewZealand in the last 20 years will end this evening, when Mr. Frank Neil's vaudeville-revue company will give its final performance at His Majesty's Theatre before returning to Australia. Tho company has been continuously employed in tho Dominion for 31 weeks, during which time over 100,000 people have paid for admission. Tho Government has received over £3OOO by way of amusement tax as a result of the tour, in addition to a very substantial sum which Mr. Neil and other members of tho company had to pay in tho form of incomo tax. Considerable sums were spent in tho Dominion in railway freights and shipping fares, in addition to tho wages of stage hands, casual workers, musicians and extra girls. The greater part of tho salaries paid to members of tho company was spent in hotel accommodation and in the shops during tho eight months tho tour lasted. Even then Mr. Neil is credited with having made a very substantial profit on tho tour. "I am more than satisfied with tho results achieved," ho said last evening. "Thero is no depression in New Zealand if you spend your money wisely and courageously instead of tying it up in the bank. I do not know what the greatest menaco has been in New Zealand during the depression, but in Australia tho greatest national enemy has been the man who made his fortune in that country hut who placed his money at fixed deposit, no matter how small tho interest, and 'shut up shop' as sfron as ho saw bad times approaching."
