THE ASSOCIATION GAME

FOSTERING CODE IN SCHOOLS BENEFIT IN FUTURE YEARS ENGLISH TROPHY CHALLENGE The importance of the game being kept alive in the schools was emphasised by tho chairman of the control board of the Auckland Football Association, Dr. Neil McDougall, when the fixtures in connection with tho secondary schools' matches were discussed at last evening's meeting. The chairman said ho was gratified t,o learn that additional entries had been received in tho school sections, and lie felt sure that, it would bo of great benefit to the code in fuluro years. Whilo barracking, clanging of -gongs, etc., woro not objected ta by referees, the fact that a spectator blew a whistle, at Blandford Park lust. Saturday mot with distinct disapproval in a, report received from the Reforcea' Association. It waa docided that if this practico- was continued, tho board would take nctiou to remove the offender, as teams playing, on the ground were at a distinct disadvantage, with two' whistles being blown. Tho ban placed on the B broadcasting station, IZH, was discussed, and. in view of the decided help that, this-station had been to sports bodies and the code in particular, a motion was carried expressing giave concern at the action of the Government. It was hoped that the ban would at least be lifted pending an inquiry. Complaints were received from clubs playing on grounds, at which players of other codes were also engaged. It was staled that these players iiad no compunction in crossing the ploying area whilo tho game was in progress, thus interfering with the play. It was decided to write to the management of the code concerned asking it to take action in the matter. In view of tho association's challenge to Otago for tho English trophy, it was decided to ask Otago to suggest suitable dates for the match, preferably later in the season. The proposed rules relative to the Flyger Cup competition, for players under the age of 21 years, were submitted by the minor division committee and were confirmed. The action of unfinaneial players in dropping out of one code and playing in another without meeting their previous obligations was again discussed, when a. club reported that, a. previous playing member 'had taken up the game with another code and was unfinaneial to tho club concerned. This matter was viewed with strong disfavour. and, it. ,was decided to risk., the; management, of thd' codei concerned id dciil, Willi tliis -player,' in accordance with reciprocal agreements placed before the various sporting bodies earlier ih ! the season: ; Al/r hi RATIONS JN FIXTURES The following alterations have been made in the Auckland Football Association's fixtures for Saturday:— Seventh Grade A,—Tiunnki v.
