MOTOR-CYCLIST KILLED

MACHINE SKIDS 50 FEET RIDER FOUND ON ROAD FRACTURE OF THE SKULL FFROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT] HAMILTON, Sunday Injuries to the head from which? he died in hospital this morning were received by Mr. John Lewis Piercy, aged 23 years, through a fall from a motorcycle at Rukuhia yesterday afternoon. Deceased, a single man, was employed as a farm hand by Mr. T. J. Healy, of Rukuhia. He was returning from a holiday spent with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Piercy, of Wanganui, and was riding his motor-cycle along Rayne's Road, Rukuhia. When he was approaching Mr. Healy's farm his machine skidded for a distance of over SOffc. and overturned. Mr. Piercy was thrown a distance of 15ft. and received a fracture of the base of tho skull. No 0110 witnessed the accident. Mr. Piercy was found by a neighbouring farmer, Mr. C. C. Sharpe, who was passing along the road. He was then unconscious, and was taken to the Waikato Hospital, where his death occurred at an early hour this morning A DOUBLE COLLISION WELL-KNOWN OARSMAN HURT [from our ow.v correspondent] HAMILTON, Sunday A well-known Hamilton oarsman, Mr. Bert M. Sandos, aged 32 years, a timber worker, was involved in a motorcycling accident in \ ictoria Street, Hamilton, shortly after seven o'clock last evening. Mr. Sandos was motor-cycling from Bridge Street into Victoria Street when his machine struck the back of a moving motor-car. The machine glanced off and was involved in a collision with another car travelling in the opposite direction. Mr. Sandos was thrown from the machine and suffered head injuries. He was admitted to the Waikato Hospital in an unconscious condition. He recovered consciousness to-day and his condition is reported to be satisfactory. Mr. Sandos is a married man and lives in Campbell Street, Frankton. He is a member of the Hamilton Rowing Club's championship four, which, won New Zealand honours,- and he has represented New Zealand at the Olympic Games. TWO ADMITTED TO HOSPITAL DRIVER AND PILLION RIDER [by telegraph —OWN correspondent] "WHANGAREI, Sunday As a result of running into the back of a stationary motor-lorry in Maunu Road, Whangarei, last evening a motor cyclist and pillion rider suffered severe injuries. The driver of the cycle, Mr. Eric Streat, single, aged 22, farm hand, employed by Mr. J. J. Crawford, of Otuhi, fractured his left upper arm and is suffering from severe shock. The pillion rider, Max Larsen, single, aged 20 years, farm hand, employed by Mr. H. H. Hawken, of Maunu, broke a leg and suffered shock. Both were admitted to the Whangarei District Hospital. MAN POUND UNCONSCIOUS SEVERE INJURIES TO HEAD Severe head injuries were received by a motor-cyclist, Mr. Victor Hewson. aged 27, of 3 Westminster Road, Mount Eden, who was thrown from his machine in King's View Road shortly after six o'clock on Saturday evening. It is thought that Mr. Hewson applied his front-wheel brake with too great severity wheh descending the fairly steep slope, and as a result the motor-cycle capsized, throwing Mr. Hewson over the handle-bars. Residents of near by houses heard the crash of tho accident and found Mr. Hewson unconscious near the middle of the road. A St. John ambulance was summoned ,and the injured man was taken to the Auckland Hospital. His •condition last evening was serious.
