CYCLES AND CARS COLLIDE
GIRL RIDER INJURED TWO WEEK-END ACCIDENTS While travelling with a young man on the pillion seat, a motor-cyclist, Miss Margaret Baird, aged 19, whose home is at East Tamaki, was involved in a collision with a motor-car on the Great South Road at Westfield at 1.30 p.m. on Saturday. The car was driven by Mr. B. Pitman. The cycle skidded on the loose metal at the side of the road after the impact, and Miss Baird was thrown heavily, receiving a compound fracture of the right leg. The pillion passenger, Mr. C. Smith, of East Tamaki, escaped with abrasions and a slight injury to the leg. Miss Baird was taken by a St. John ambulance to the Auckland Hospital, where her condition was later reported to be not serious. Another collision between a motorcycle and a car occurred at the intersection of Gladstone Road and the waterfront road \on Saturday afternoon. The rider of the motor-cycle, Mr. Harold Hunt, who lives at 5 Liuwood Avenue, Mount Albert, received a compound fracture of the right ankle and was taken, by a St. John ambulance to the hospital, where he was admitted. The driver of the car, which was da in* aged on the right-hand side, was Mr, L. Collins, who lives at the Y.M.C.A.
