SUGAR CHEAPER
FURTHER REDUCTION TO-DAY A further decrease of 10s a ton in the wholesale price of sugar, to take effect from to-day, is announced by the Colonial Sugar Refining Company. A previous reduction by the same amount a ton was made on May 19. Tho new prices are as follows: — Brewers' crystals, £27 10s a ton; caster sugar, £29 ss; No. 1 coarse grain, £26 15s; No. 1A fine grain, £26; No. 2 soft, £25 10s; No. 3 yellow ration, £24 10s; invert sugar, £2-4. Reductions also have been made in the price of golden syrup and treacle. Tho current prices are still £6 5s a ton higher than at this time last year. There was an increase of £1 a ton in July, and of 10s a ton in August. In October tho prices declined by 15s a ton, but wore increased by 10s in January this year. Tho raising of tho sugar duties caused an advance of £5 a ton in February, and this was followed by a further rise of 10s the same month. In March prices rose again by 10s, but these last two rises havo been offset by the reductions notified this month.
