TEMPESTUOUS VOYAGE
THE CITY OF DELHI THRILLING STORY RELATED BRISBANE, April 18 Officers of the steamer City of Delhi, which has berthed at Brisbane, tell the story of a tempestuous voyage from j Newcastle-on-Tyne to Philadelphia. When only a day out they encountered a gale, during the height of which a wireless message was received from the steamer Exeter City, statine that the captain and two men had been lost when the bridge was swept overboard, and calling; for assistance. While the City of Delhi was racing to the assistance of the other vessel her tailshaft broke and for two days she drifted in a gale. Eventually the City of Lille took her in tow, but the tow-rope broke and, the storm increasing in fury, it became impossible for the tow to be resumed for another two days. Eventually the City of Delhi reached Boston Harbour. The Exeter City foundered after the crew had been rescued by the steamer American Merchant.
