LITTLE GIRL'S ORDEAL
FALL FROM PONY LONG JOURNEY TO HOSPITAL [BY telegraph—OWN correspondent] OPOTIKI, Tuesday When riding a pony with her father, Mr. A. Irvine, manager of the Maur.garoa station, Te Kaha, 25 miles from Opotiki, Elizabeth Irvine, aged 4 years, fell from her pony, dislocating an elbow. A long and painful journey to hospital was necessary. The girl's father communicated with Mr. It. Helm, who took a car up the Kereru River road as far as possible. In the meantime the child was taken in a buggy to meet the car. It was necessary to cross the river 11 times in darkness, a man riding ahead with a torch to show the way. The patient, who was suffering great pain, reached the Opotiki Hospital late last night. An operation was performed to-day.
