Six ; teams are competing. The results in the pre- ! liminary round are Wellington, 12. beat Napier, 0; Wanganui, 14, beat Hamilton, 0; Gisborne. 10. beat Auckland, 3. The most interesting match was that between Gisborne and Auckland, the latter being tho present holders of tlie cup. The issue remained in doubt until (he last minute, a try, converted, giving Gisborne a decisive victory. Both these teams fielded good packs, the points being scored from forward movements. In tho Wanganui-llnm-ilion match tho former's good pack decided tho issue. Napier fielded good forwards, but Wellington's backs were Ihe deciding factor. i HANGITAIKI UNION i The annual meeting of tho Rangitaiki Rugby Union was well attended. Mr. F. J. Burt presided. The report stated that in Kpite of a slight shortage on last season's receipts the balance-sheet showed a credit of iG2. The election of officers resulted:—Patron, Mr. C. E. MacMillan; president, Mr. F. J. Burt; secretary and treasurer. Mr. It. J. i Webb; delegates to Bay of Plenty Rugby : Union, Messrs. 11. L. Anderson and F. Patience. It was decided to commence tho competitions on April 29. MARSHALL CUP CONTEST [from our own correspondent] MORRINSVILLE, Sunday The first round of senior games for the Marshall Cup was continued yesterday. The unbeaten teams, Kereone and Eastern Com- ; bined, met on the Waitoa ground, Kereone j winning by 12 points to 0, after leading 3 —o i at lialf-tinio. United beat Terriers by Xl—o. Kaierau (Wanganui) defeated Oriental by 23 points to 9.
