WOODLANDS SWAMP
DRAINAGE OBJECTIONS MERGING OF DISTRICTS [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Saturday A number of objections to the comprehensive scheme to drain the Woodlands swamp was received by tbe Taupiri Drainago Board from ratepayers this week. Some ratepayers opposed the scheme, while others objected to the apportionment of tho work and cost. It was decided to refer- some of the objections to tho Public Works Department, and to suggest that a more direct outlet to tho Orini Canal should be provided than that through tho Orini bend. Advice was received from the Tauhei Drainage Board that it had agreed to merge with tho Taupiri Board as from May 1. It was decided to ask the Government to appoint a commission to determine tho apportionment of assets and liabilities of the Tauhei, Hillside and Eureka Boards, and the areas left outside tho Taupiri Board's district.
