AUCKLAND RAILWAYS
• : MORE PASSENGERS TRAVEL FALL IN YEAR'S REVENUE A decrease of £186,352 in total r(*■ venue is shown by tlic traffic returns for tho Auckland railway district for ~ the year ended March 31 last. The decrease during the 1931-1932 period " amounted to £292,6~9. Of the total falling-off there is a. decrease of £1.54,315, or 13.20 per cent, in revenue from goods, the previous year s decrease being 7.5 per cent. An increase is shown under rents, the receipts amounting to £19,547, or 14:03 per cent above the figure in the corresponding period last year. Under the heading of miscellaneous there is a de-. crease of 17.19 per cent in the revenue, which amounted to £12,206. In tho numbers of ordinary and season tickets sold there were increases of . 21.55 per cent and 2.71 per cent respectively. In the previous year a decrease was shown in both cases, amounting to 12.9 and 35.5 per cent-respec-tively. A fall of 15.47 per cent in goods tonnage carried during the year was accounted for partly by tho fact that during the previous year trouble at Arapuni necessitated large quantities of cement being sent to the hydro-elec-tric station and a larger amount of coal was carried to the power station * at King's Wharf. A lesser quantity of fertiliser was carried. The Auckland railway district includes the Rotorua and Bay of Plenty branches and all' lines between Frankton and Opua.
