LAND DRILL COMPETITION The open land drill competition for tho Pirate Shippe Plato was held nt Mil ford yesterday. This competition, which had been postponed from early last, month, is open to any surf life-saving club, school or similar institution in the province. The Te Puke team was judged prior to the other teams when it was in Auckland in connection with another competition. A feature of the display was the first public appearance of a team from the newlyformed Brown's Bay Surf Lifo-«aving Club, and, so high was its standard of work, that it was but four points behind the winners. The competition wns close, nnd it was early evident that there would be little separating tho teams. Milford proved the winners by one point from Taknpnna, which was only one-quarter of a point ahead of the Milford girls' team. 'Milford won the Pirate Shippe Plate for the third time, and Takapunq. took tho cup presented by the Royal Life-saving Society for thy fouith time. Mr. A. Wr.rbrick made the presentation. Tho officials were:—Judges. Messrs. K. G. Rejd, R. Moor. G. V/. Cameron; bench marshali, Mr. A. B. Coleman; timekeepers, Messrs. L. Brighton nnd F. Langley. The results were as follows:—Milford, 72 1-3 points; Takapuna, 71J; Milford Girls, 71; Brown'a Bay, 68J; Te Puke, 68. LAND DRILL COMPETITION ' The annual land drill competition for the Pirate Shippe Plate, held on Milford Beach, resulted in a win for the Milford team, which narrowly defeated the Takapuna team.
