Feb. 10 Jockev McCarten's appeal against his two months' disqualification has been dismissed. ) DEATH OF WOODVALE A WELL-BRED PACER The death of the pacer Woodvale who for the past ten years has been trained and raced in the Auckland Province, is announced. Before coining north Woodvalo was trained in Canterbury by A. Hcming, tor whom he showed a lot of promise He won the Liverpool Handicap at the 1920 Otaliuliu spring meeting and was then purchasrd by Mr. A. (.i. Warnock. of Grey Lynn. Woodvale ran some useful two miles races for bis new owner, but it was not until the 1927 Auckland winter meeting that he gained a victory, when the race he v.ou was again the Liverpool Handicap. Woodvale was not raced much in later years, but in the 1930-31 season for six starts he recistered two seconds and a third. Early last season he was given a couple of races at Epsom, but foiled to strike form and Mr. Warnock then pensioned him off and he spent liia remaining days oh good pastures at Grey Lynn. Woodvale was well bred, being by the dual New Zealand Trotting Cup winner, Wildwqod Junr.. from Velvet Vale. He was foaled in 1914 and was in his 18th year. FEBRUARY HANDICAP FIELD

CHRISTMAS FORM AS GUIDE With the Christmas triple winner Garner missing from the higher-class Lotting races at the coming je,psoili meeting local horses will have an opportunity to secure the prize-money. The only outsider engaged in the February Handicap on the litst day is the Nelson trotter iSicoya. who is handicapped earlier in the day on 3.39. Unless the visitor succeeds in winning the Trial Handicap, it is hardly likely that he will attempt the more difficult task in the later race. 'I he best of the local contingent will measure strides and the event bears an open aspect. On the lorm disclosed in December Wes6ie_ Parrisii, Parrish Belle, Zanzibar and Dark McKiiiney hold good prosbut Marble Star and Moko Girl will add interest to the contest. Bessie Parrish tailed to show up in the Rowo Cup. in which Parrish Belle and Billy Carbine filled the places behind Garner. In the Epsom Trot, on the second day, Bessie Parrish was thud to Garner and Dark AlcKinncy. and .that she improved with racing uas demonstrated on the lost day, when she beat everything but the Canterbury ma.e. While Parrish Belle, who did not start on the middle day, ran another solid race in the Association Handicap, she failed to civo Bessie Parrish '-4 yards, and at a difference of 12 yards next week the Mangers trotter may beat, her again. Zanzibar was produced twice at the last meeting and finished fourth in the Rowc Cup and Association Handicap, running a. splendid race in the latter event. As ho had not, raced for some time, his efforts were full of merit, and he should be sufficiently improved to bo a source of danger to the best of his opponents. In the Association Handicap he was conceding Bessie Parrish 12 yards and finished iust that distance away from her, as both recorded 3.29 3-5, and from the same mark in the February Handicap Zanzibar should keep the ninre up to it all the way. Moko Girl was not seen at her best when last raced, but she has made remarkable progress in the interval and a repetition of her training effort on Tuesday, when she kept, three solid pi-ers busy over n mi 1 © nnd a-half. to run 3.24 4-5. should make her very difficult t,o beat. Marble Slnr's prospects will depend on the improvement be ir«y have m-de since removing to Hanu't"'* In the Kpsom Handicap Dork McKinney beat Bessie Parrish at a difference of 3li yards, and they meet again on the same terms. , , Windchat and Explosion look to have the hardest part to do from fheir marks, but they are fine trotters when at the;r best. Present appearances point to Bessie Parrish. Zanzibar, Parrish Belle and Moko Girl having most to say in the decision of the raceTROTTING FIXTURES February 18, 22—Auckland TroJling Club. February 25—New Brighton Trotting Club March 3, 4—[nvercargill Trotting Club. March 4—Wellington Trotting Club. March 11—Tun mi Trotting Club. March 11—Wairarapa Trotting Club (at Wellington!.
