ELLERSLIE TRAINING

HORSES FOR ROTORUA HAWTHORNE, PRINCE COLOSSUS The course proper, with the poles about 45ft. out from the rails, and No. 2 grass and tan tracks were in use at Ellerslie yesterday morning, the going being excellent. Several horses with engagements at Rotorua were galloped, although no fast times were recorded.

On the course proper, Hawthorne, Prince Colossus and Darmu gave Angie over twelve lengths' start from the five furlongs post and were almost up with him at the finish after running the distance in I.G 2-5. Hawthorne and Prince Colossus both did their work in good style, and are in nice order for their Rotorua engagements. Mahkill and Taneriri were companions over six furlongs, and, after covering the first three furlongs in 38 3-ss, completed tho gallop in 1.21 .4-5. Mahkill, who is on the improve, finished several lengths ahead of Taneriri, but the latter was loafing at tho finish.

Demylus, displaying more speed than usual, beat Tetrarchato at the conclusion of five furlongs in 1.5 4-5. They ran the first two furlongs in 25 l-ss. It was a useful effort for Demylus, although Tetrarchate was wido out all the way.

On the No. 2 grnss Horowhenua and the Polazel -Lucky French filly in Hoi-; land's stable finished in front of tho Lucullus—Country Air filly at the end of three furlongs which took 395. Horowhenua is on tho improve and tho Polazel filly shows more than average pace for a novice. Roman Mascot was allotted a six furlongs task, which she ran comfortably in 1.23. Thi3 filly, who is usually a bad trackworker, was anxious to go /aster and looked much bolter as the result of her recent racing. . ; Wee Pat (Craddock) was given a trial over a pony .hurdle, which she cleared in promising stylo for a novice. Horses allotted useful tasks, chiefly on the tan and sand tracks, were:—Dark Prince, Courthaven, Zane Grey, Teremai, Manawhenua, Valroe. Ruling King, Supreme Ruler and Sunny Sky. Solomon was also out doing pace-work, but was not eent against the watch. NOTES FROM EVERYWHERE TRACK AND STABLE GOSSIP Royal Gallant and Flving Prince are now being trained by F. R. Foster at Pukekohe. Imperial Prince and Principal had their first schooling work at Takanini yesterday sinco racing at Ellerslie. They performed very satisfactorily and with Exaggeration, Groek Gold and possibly others of Mr. T. Impey's team will have their next outings at Te A roll a. The jumper Absent, who bruised a bone in one of liis bind logs while competing at tho summer meeting at Ellerslie, has resumed work after several weeks on tho easy list. He is carrying a bright appearance and should mako good progress in bis preparation for the autumn meetings. After racing at Rotorua the two-year-old Coronis is likely to join F. R. Foster's stablo at Pultekohe. At present he is training Royal Gallant and Flying Prince. A yearling by Robespierre—Mazurka hns Arrived at Pukekohe from the South Island and later in 'he year will go into Fostcr'3 stable

Until just after the summer carnival at Ellerslie the four-year-old Sir Val was progressing splendidly in his preparation, but he has had a severe setback owing to a>: internal disorder and has lost a lot of condition. Ho has commenced work again, but it will be some time before he picks up thoroughly.

Princess Star has been suffering from a knock on one of her hind legs which filled' considerably and that accounted for her nbsenco from recent engagements. The injury is not serious and N. Goscomb again has her doing stoady work at Takanini. Princess Star is in solid condition and will be able to race at short notice.

Since being taken lip again by L. M. Mnnson, Eldora has made st"«dy progress and it is pleasing to note that this tine filly is now free from tho soreness that sent her off tho scene before the holidays. She should return to form before long and her trainer will probably allow her to race at Te Aroha, where she should be well suited by the big tragk.

Hunting March, the half-brother (by Hunting Song) to Karangapai, is again an active member of G. Holland's team. He has built up during his respite from training and is in nice order to go ahead with a preparation. Hunting March has a nic& turn of speed and should be worth persevering with. Like most of the Huntinc Songs, he should improve with age.

Repeated failures have lost Reviver most of the admirers she gained by her speedy trials at Takanini and she is now regarded as a very uncertain customer. L. M. Manson intonds to give her another chance to reinstate herself at Rotorua. She has enough speed to account for the moderate maidens engaged, but it is questionable whether sho will _ run up to her track form, which is invariably good.

Master Brierly lightened up a little as a result of his racing at Takapuna and he is evidently not yet as solid as could be desired. He is again exercising regularly at Takanini, although he is not being asked to do anything strenuous and he should be ready to race again at Te Aroha if required. His stablemate. King Mestor. suffered little from his hard race on the second day and he appears to be furnishing steadily. He should bo a handsome youngster at the end of the season.
