An annual subsidy of £IOO was being paid by the council to the Library Committee. The £IOOO from the next art union was contingent on a site being secured. The house on the property could bp let at 15s a week. The council held £SO, as a library donation. The balance of purchase money would come from the borough revenue. Tho saving would be, approximately, £4O a year. The following resolution was passed :—"That tho Property Holders' Association does not approve the action of the council in acquiring the site for a library, and thinks that such an undertaking should be postponed until the financial position of tho borough is on a sounder footing."
