NOTES ON THE, RUNNING

FIRST MONEY'S PERFORMANCE

'[BY TELEGBATH—OWN CORRESPONDENT] 1 INVERCARGILL, Sunday ' Blazon repeated his Trial Stakes forrii in theßonmoro Handicap. He was again slow ill tho early stages, but won going away from Ohai. This was F. Shaw's fourth :euccessivo winner. The favourite. Pink. Paper, made the pace to the straight, and faded into fourth place. The solid second :favourite, William Tell, took charge, at the end of five furlongs in, the Oreti Trot, and won as he liked. Marinco Lee and Mart o' Franz were a moderate second and third, respectively. Tho fav-. ourite, Wee Scotty, again failed to pace generously. ... .. •. 7. • ~</ < • Tippling was backod as a certaiiity in tho Soldier Members'- Memorial, but ho -sot pocketed at tho top of tho straight . and Leading Boy beat, liiin by a pose, beading Boy made all the running, but' Tippling' should have won. Night Maid was going well at the home turn, when she lost an iron and finished well back third. From a moving start First Money led all the way in the Stewards' Purse "Handicap, and won hard held from Crubenmore. Hula Belle was sore and tailed off early. First Money had his first race in tho colours of his new owner, Mr. A. McKay, who secured him for a "song." The Paper Money gelding showed none of his former flightiness at tho barrier, and ho looks a great bargain, for he is very speedy Oklahoma and Just John woro tho pacemakers all tho way in the Dash Tyot, and the former stayed on best to win'by two lengths. Ozanam, who was omitted from the acceptances, raced in third place throughout. Another hot favourite, Assemble, tried to win the Lochiel Handicap all tho way, but was soundly beaten by Steeton, who for onco ran truo to track form. Leading Boy was a fair third, but Consono ran badly. Assemble was lamo afterwards. On tho strength of his second to Blazon on tho first day. Fair Vision was made a. warm favourite for the Awarua Handicap, but ho was well beaten into fourth placo after holding the winning position at the homo turn. Miss Winston finished wide out and beat tho pacemaker. Ballasalla. by four lengths.

SILVER SCORN'S FUTURE

NO FURTHER DEVELOPMENTS

[by telegraph—own correspondent] CHRISTCHURCH, ■ Sunday

Silver Scorn has had an eaßy Hime since the Cup meeting. As was only to be expected, she lightened up after her. week's racing, but otherwise showed no ill-effects, and according to her owner-trainer. G. Murray Aynsley, she settled down immediately after the meeting and gave little indication in. her daily routine of having undergone a severe programme. . It is as yet too early to -suggest Silver Scorn's movements during the holiday period. Much will depend on Berat'e's progress. but her owner eays ho does not feel disposed to make any plans to go i far away from home with'her" if • the handicap she received for Saturday next is any indication of the treatment likely to, be meted out to her in other centres. 1 '

There has been no further development in regard to the suggested sale of Silver Scorn. Since the negotiations which were in progress before the Cup meeting, her owner has not discussed any proposal. Ha certainly had inquiries as to whether slio was for' sale, and one of- these came, from J. 11. Jefferd, but the. reply,, in each- caso. was that alia was Hot on th'e' iria'rket.
