The plough gallop, however, is _in splendid order to take all the work during any dry period, and in all probability most of the coming week's operations will be confined to that track.

The North Canterbury Racing Club's meeting, to be held at Riccarton next Saturday, is being looked forward to by trainers, who appreciate the chance of giving their charges a race on the favoured Riccarton course proper, which, although carrying a hard surface at present, provides satisfactory going owing to a solid sole of grass. His . stable-mate, . Red Heckle, is being kept going and looks_ remarkably well after'liis hard racing of late. It is-intended to a-.trip.-to. the Manawatu meeting at Christmas with him. , G., Murray Ayhsley has displayed a good deal of patience with Riri for soino "time •past, but tho gelding's two'displays during clip week brought about a decision to get rid of him.. Accordingly v ßiri is now in the ownership of R. Adamson, who will raco hiiri on the West Coast circuit in company with, his other representative, Verden. Riri lias the ability to gallop, but he has developed trying barrier behaviour, and invariably runs his races before tho field is despatched. Tho coast travelling and racing may effect an improvement in him. Mr. L. W. Storry last week acquired a three-year-old gelding by Jericho from tho Paper Money Scrip from Mr. H. M. Reeves, of tho Hororata stud. Ho ha 3 not been tried, but his looks and breeding suggesthe should turn out useful. A three-year-old gelding by Martarma from the English mare Torquata, bred by Mr. W. F. Parkinson, was recently put into work by F. Christmas, but, that trainer has now handed him over to Mrs. J. Campbell to carry on his preparation. The gelding has plenty of size and resembles Marlarma moro than any of his progeny to date. He has not yet dono much, owing to being a littlo difficult to manage, but when seen in action lie haa attracted marked attention, and with time ho is expected to make good. i, „ ■ Meprisant and Muff aro intended to race at the Dunedin, Waikouaiti and . Oamaru holiday meetings.
