FIGHT WITH SHARK
BATHER BADLY HURT REMARKABLE BRAVERY MONSTER BEATEN OFF VICTIM REACHES SHORE NEWCASTLE BEACH DRAMA By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright (Received October 31, 7.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, Oct. 31 The first shark attack of the season occurred to-day at Redhead Beach, near Newcastle. Mr. Reginald Ogilvie, aged 24, captain of the Redhead Surf Club, was the victim. He was terribly injured on both sides of his body and one hand, and his lungs were perforated. Mr. Ogilvie showed amazing pluck. After beating off the shark he struggled to the shore with blood pouring from his wounds. He calmly asked friends to attend to him, saying: "I am done." He then gasped and collapsed. The injured man is in a critical condition, but is given a fighting chance of recovering. In previous attacks by sharks no victim has shown more bravery than was exhibited by Mr. Ogilvie. He made no complaint while the ambulance men were attending to him. He remarked: " I can see my lungs are gone, but I feel all right."
