THAMES GIRLS' CLUB
The fifth annual meeting of tho Thames Girls' Club was held in the Druids' Hall, Newton, on Wednesday evening. There was a large attendance of members. Mrs. A. D. Campbell (patroness) presided. It was stated that, although the year had been ono of great depression, unemployment and financial distress, the club had maintained its satisfactory position. Injmoving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet Mrs. Campbell congratulated the club on its splendid work for the year and said that the activities of the members in charitable work had been admirable. She hoped it would continue to carry on its useful work. Many donations had been made during the year, and organisations which had benefited included the-St. John Ambulance Association and the Tararu Cemetery Fund (Thames). Parcels had also been collected for i he liev. C. G. Scrimgeour and the St. John Ambulance District Nurses, who had distributed them among the needy. Enjoyable items were given as follows: —Pianoforte solps, Miss Betty Thorburn and Miss Bonnie Stubbing; bagpipes, Mr. Fiveash: songs, Mrs. Wright and Miss Laura Walker; and humorous items, Mr. Alan McElwain. Competition prizes were won by Miss Dearling and Mr, McElwain. During supper the club's fifth birthday cake was cut by Mrs. Jensen, a life member. Ihe officers and committee elected for the ensuing year were: Patroness. Mrs. A. D. Canipbell; vice-patroness, Mrs. G. .11. Hutchinson; president, Mrs. P. McGregor; vice-presidents. Mrs. Aitken, Mrs. Fogarty and Miss C. Dick; auditor, Mr. Greerislade; secretary, Miss N. Surman; treasurer, Miss J. Aitken; committee, Mesdames Andrews, Corder, McPherson, Stubbing, Wright, Miller, Davison, McIntvre, Grihble, Nicholls, Hubber, McGeehan, Taylor, and Miss Gillespie. Bouquets were presented to the patroness and others by the excutive of the club.
