MOTORISTS' ESCAPE

SOMERSAULT OF CAR MINOR INJURIES RECEIVED VEHICLE BADLY DAMAGED [by telegraph—own CORRESPONDENT] NEW PLYMOUTH, Thursday Two men had a miraculous escape from death last evening when a motor-car in which they were driving overturned and pinned them beneath it. They escaped with minor injuries. The accident occurred at the- intersection of Dawson and "V ivian Streets. The car skidded into the kerb and turned a somersault, landing with its wheels in the air against a stone wall. Ihe windscreen was smashed, the hood crumpled level with the top of the body, and the steering-wheel forced into the body of the car. The vehicle was driven by Mr. L. J. Tracey, of Huinga, with Mr. A. R. Simmons, of Westown, as a passenger. With all this damage it seemed impossible that the two occupants should escape uninjured, yet they suffered only a few cuts about the bands from flying glass. The radiator was buckled and the mudguards were crumpled, while one headlight was smashed and the petrol tank was punc'iured. The intersection is a particularly dangerous one, and near by residents hear the skidding of cars at all hours of the day and night.. Dawson Street carries a large volume, of traffic, as it is the main route to Frankley Koad, and for much of Uie Westown and hospital traffic.
