TE AWAMUTTJ HORSES MARECHAL'S RECOVERY GAY SHIELD COLT IMPRESSES [from, our own correspondent] TE AWAMUTU, Thursday The going about six feet out from tho rails was available for fast work this morning. A heavy fog delayed work for a time but tlio track was in good order and when the fog had cleared, to a certain extent, work was commenced. Eager Roso (Baker) was first out and galloped easily throughout a milo journey in 1.50. This mare made the trip to Cambridge last Saturday, but the weather prevailing caused her to bo a non-starter. Five furlongs in 1.8 saw neither Trishna (Paul) nor Transaction (Rowan) doing their best. His tWo races at Avondalc, following his good work at. headquarters, has not left Trishna in high regard among local track-watchers, Kurapao (Baker) began moro smartly than Erination (Pollard) from tho half-mile peg and ho was still in front at the end in 525. Erination was not kept up to his work and is improving. Limeen (Brown) and Jonathan (McKcnzio) showed that they have taken no ill effects from their recent racing by getting to the end of seven furlongs in 1.33}. This whs a useful effort and both were doing their, work nicely at tho finish. Ma rcchal (Baker) was striding along nicely at the end of four furlongs in 535. Ho has got over his recent indisposition und looks well. Master Rex (Bnsselt) bad tho Milskotoon —Acquila filly (Rowan) us a companion over three furlongs in lis. Master Rex has greatly improved in appearance. Trickling Waters (TuOhey) and the King Lu—All Win gelding {Cameron) strode over two furlongs in 255. Both arc making steady progress. . The -Surveyor—Juanna four-year-old gelding moved attractively when allowed to bowl along down tho straight. _ This gelding. Surveyor's solo representative in this centre, has had tho name of R.uri bestowed upon him Tho last fast work of tho morning was a surprise for track-watchers, and. aroused tho most 'interest. Impasto (Stokes) and tho Gay Shield —Persis colt (Tuohey) broke away between tho tivo furlong and half-mile pOst, Impasto on the outside. Both appeared to lie (loii)g their work well with u hundred yards to go, but over tho last, fifty. lijipastft collapsed and tho Gay Shield Cfilt lift him homo by almost a chain. The tivo. 49 3-ss, showed that it whs a great effort oil tho Gay Shield colt's part, but Impasto disappointed by his finishing effort. Bambury, who went slightly sore beforo Avondale. has not yet made a reappearance on tho tracks. After n »pell on Inn owner ft farm. Spalniko has rejoined H. L. Russell's team. Spalpiko's lens have cleaned up and ho looks bis: and burly. Beryl La tour lightened up after Cambridge and is having a short spell. Tho two-year-old Dinoili has not neefi asked for any work since Avonclalo and at present her futuro iw rather uncertain. ■ RACING FIXTURES October 20—-Poverty Bay Turf Club.
