CLOTHING TRADE AWARD
SHIRT WORKERS' SECTION
EMPLOYERS' NEW CLAIMS
Reduced wages and altered conditions of work arc included in claims for a newaward in t,lio silk and white shirt workers' section of the clothing trades, which lias been filed by Auckland employers. The employers ask for a reduction in wages and alteration of conditions similar to the claims made in tho general clothing trades' application, which was filed on September 19. It is proposed that tile hours .of work should be 45 instead of 44 as at present, and that learners should be substituted for tailoress apprentices, tho rates of wages for learners to commence at 10s a week for the fust six months, against 13s 6d at presdnt, rising by a graduated scale to £1 7s 6d in the eighth six monthly period, as against £1 Us 6d . The following arc the proposed rates ot wages, the present rates being shown in parentheses:—Journcywomen, £1 12s 6d weekly (£2 0s 6d); male machinists, £3 15s (£3 18s 9d); second-class chart cutters, £3 I.Bs 9d (£4 3s 3d); stock cutters and trimmers and examiners in charge of finishing room, £3 15s (£3 18s 9d); pressors and oilers, S5 15s (£3 18s 9d). Under the conditions of the proposed award, overtime for all workers is to be paid at tune and a-quarter, instead of the present rate of time and a-half for tho first three hours and double time thereafter.
