STONE FOR USE ON ROADS
A deputation from the Ratepayers' Association waited on tho Mount Wellington Road Board at its last meeting urging that the board give any possible assistance to enable ratepayers at present on relief work to reduco or wipe out their arrears of rates, l'fc was suggested that a small loan could bo arranged and a great deal of work necessary in the district could thus bo put in hand. The chairman replied that a loan was impracticable. However, a largo amount of stone required to be broken up for road work and the board had agreed that contracts for breaking the stone be offered, the money so earned to be used in reducing tho rate arrears. Tho clerk was instructed to draft details of the scheme and submit them to the Ratepayers' Association for consideration.
It was agreed to supply water to the Panmuro Town Board at 2s 1000 gal lons, subject to prices at present charged by tho Auckland City Council remaining tho same. The rates collected tip to September 15, including arrears, totalled £4OOO, representing about one-third of tho total collectable.
After discussion upon the trouble with the floodgates at Westfield, it was decided that the authorities there be interviewed with a view to coming to some arrangement.
