BANK WITHDRAWAL SLIPS YOUNG MAN TO BE SENTENCED , Pleading guilty to three charges of , forgery at the Onehunga Police Court yesterday, a young man, Edward John Evans, was committed by Messrs. H. J. Davies and T.'H. Geraghty, J.P.'s, to the Supreme Court for sentence. H. D. Evans, accused's brother, said that in June last, on his return from Ngaruawahia, he missed his Post Office Savings Bank book from his home. His account was then £76 in credit. In July he recovered tho book from his brother and he then found that tho credit balance had diminished to £6. Tbe signatures on the three withdrawal slips produced were forgeries. • • , Cross-examined, witness said that bis brother was. about to be married at the time the money was withdrawn and was in urgent need of funds. The present proceedings had been instituted against his wish and he did not desiro that accused should be punished. Two officials on the staff of tho Onehunga post office deposed that on May 19, May 30 and June 4, £35 10s, £3O and £5 respectively, had been withdrawn from tho account by accused. Detective G. A. McWhirter said that when arrested accused admitted the charge and was quite frank about it. Bail in the Sum of £75 was allowed, acmsed being ordered to report daily to j- tho police.
