DECISION OF CUP MATCHES BENEFIT GAME AT HAMILTON The following results of Rugby matches played in the various country centres on Saturday were forwarded by correspondents of tho Herald:— Hamilton.—A benefit match in aid of the Hamilton Olympic fund and the St. John Ambulance Brigade was played between teams representing the Hamilton Rowing Club and Hamilton at Rugby Park. The Rowing Club team won by 14 points to. 13 after a close but rather dull match. St. George raised Hamilton's first points when he scored following a loose forward rush, | Lissette converting. Hook then made an opening for the Rowing Club, McCormiek carrying on to score unopposed, and a little later Waters crossed the line for J. Denz to convert. In the second spell Hamilton gained the lead with a penalty goal by Bruce and a. try by Brodrick, which was converted by Lissette, but tries by Tombs and Waters gave Rowing Club the victory. Thames.—On a ground slightly holding owing to rain earlier in the day, Thames defeated Matamata by 11 points to 8. I'or the visitors Carlson kicked two penalty goals and converted an obstruction try. Dovell, McMahon and Garvey crossed the line for Thames, Vedder converting the last try. The Thames junior representatives defeated the Parnell fourth grade t<»im by 0 points to li. Morrlnsville.—Tho Morrinsville junior representatives retained the Boyce Cup by defeating Matamata juniors on the Morrinsville ground by 11 points to 0. Early in tho game J. Hecps kicked a penalty goal for Morrinsville, and before half-time L. Russell, the Morrinsville half, dived over from a scrum on the Matamata line. Heeps converted. In the second half Morrinsville continued to do tho attacking and J.. King scored in the corner. Hceps' kick hit an upright and rebounded. Mr. W. Moxsom was referee.

Tc Awamutu. —Te Awamutu (Waipa champions) and Leamington (Cambridge champions) met again for the Binnie Cup this afternoon, after playing a drawn game a weeks ago. This time Leamington won b.v 9 points to G—a converted try and field goal to a try and a penalty goal. The gamo was played in the rain, and accurate handling was impossible. Mr. E. Scott., of Cambridge, was referee. The Waipa junior representatives played Glen Afton juniors, with Mr. R. Annibal as referee. A reall.v good contest ended in favour of Waipa by 1G points (two converted tries, one unconverted and one penalty goal) to G (a try and a penalty goal). Matamata.—The only gamo at Matamata was the filial of the third grade knock-out competition for the Crystal Cup between Hiliuera and High School. High School early assumed the offensive and Roberts scored a try. There was no further score before half-time. In the second half Hinuera improved, and. after G. Hawle had kicked a penalty gonl, Germann outpaced the defence to score a try. Hinuera thoroughly deserved its win by G points to 3. Te Kuiti In the final match this season for (lie Hetet Memorial Shield, Te Kuiti (holders) defeated Mananui in the Domain by 19 points to 3 after a hard-fought contest. Whangarei.—A team from the Ponsonby Club played a match against n City team at Rugby Park, the latter winning by H points to 0. There was an attendance of approximately SOO, and tlio ground was soft and the ball greasy as the result of rain which fell heavily just prior to the commencement of the game. Harrison and MoKenzio scored tricß for the winners, Gladding converting that scored by Harrison The more prominent of the Poneonby players were Clarke. H. Canimick and Hook, while the others played good games. Although the visiting forwards were outweighted they played well, the more noticeable being Wilkinson, Knox nnd Chitty. Of the local bocks, Rarity, fullback, saved his side frequently during the first spell. Gladding. Beelire and Collins were prominent among the others, while McKenzie and Linnell were the outstanding forwards. In the semi-final of the junior knock-out competition, Wliakapara defeated Onerahi b j G points to 3. The game, although keenly contested, was not spectacular owing to the heavy state of the ground. The final in the seven-a-side primary rural schools was played between Maungakaruniea njid Hikurnngi, and resulted in a win for Maungakaramea by 3 to 0 after playing for several minutes beyond time in order to secure a result.

Waiuku.—Waiuku retained the Massey Cup, defeating Franklin by 8 points to 7. Best opened the score for Franklin with a try. Kemp, who played a great game in the Waiuku vanguard, scored twice for Waiuku in the second spell, and his first try was converted by Jackson. Franklin had the better of the play from then onward, nnd a goal from the field by Barnaby brought tho side within an ace of lifting ♦ho cup. Within five minutes of time Hira, Franklin's outstanding back, sustained slight concussion and had to be assisted from the field. Pukekohe.—Pukekohe representative team, 31, University Colts. 10; South Auckland juniors, 8, University third intermediate. 8; I\ia Ora (Pukekohe native team), 5. Paeroa.—Tho first match for the Tnncouver -Cup presented to tho New Zealand Rugby "Union by tho Mayor of Vancouver, Mr. L. Taylor, for competition between school football teams, was played at Paeroa between tho Thames V alley and Matamata school teams. Tho game resulted in a win for Thames Valley by 8 to 0. After the game. Mr. J. W. Silcock, past-president of the Thames Valley Rugby Union, on behalf of tho New Zealand Rugby Union, presented the cup to the captain of the winning team. In (he knock-out competition for the Frank Williams Cup, Old Boys beat West by 25 points to 0. In tho Sprague Shield competition the Railways and Public Works teams met, the game being won by Railways by 10 points to 13. Whakatane.—Great interest was taken by the public in tho final representative match of the season, played at Matata. The contesting teams wcro Whakatanc and Rangitaiki. Whakatnne. playing only five of its usual representatives, met defeat, by 17 points to 8. The gamo did not produce any bright flashes of football, and was not up to the standard of Rugby set by either team during a very successful season. Mr. llousham ably controlled the game. Tauranga.—The final match for the Gilby Cup was played in fine weather between To Puna and Athletics. It was a fast, keen game and was won by Athletics by 14 points to 10. Tries for tho winners were gained by C. Cameron R, Parkinson, R. Rare and W. Morriman. one being converted by C. Cameron For To Puna, R. Grey and I. Tangitu each scored a try, R. Ore;, and R. Walford converting tho tries. Mr. T. Milne was referee. A junior match for the Shalfoon Shield between Tauranga (holder) and Opotiki (challenger) was keenly contested. Tauranga led at tho interval by 14 points to 3. The second spell was fast and open and the back play wan very attractive, the. game ending in favour of Tauranga by 17 to 11. Mr. R. Packman was referee. SEDDON SHIELD MATCH BULLER LOSES THE TROPHY [by TELEGRAPH —riIESS association] WESTPORT. Sunday After holding tho Seddon Shield since 1930 the Buller representative team was defeated for the trophy by West Coast in a brilliant game played under perfect weather conditions in the presence of a largo crowd of spectators. Bullor did not reproduce the good form it showed in the early shield victories, and it was outclassed in all departments of tho gamo by its opponents. The West Coast backs showed brilliant form, with Scandrett and Fong the stars, and its forwards, led by Freitns, Hughes, Jones and Deere, proved too good for tho Buller pack. The Buller backs were sadly disorganised, and they could not copo with the fine passing rushes of the visitors. For tho West Coast, Fong, Gilbert and Martyn scored tries, and Hill scored for Buller.
