SOUTH AUCKLAND HONOURS DOUBLE WIN FOR FRANKLIN The following results of championship nnd representative matches played in the various country centres 011 Saturday, were forwarded by correspondents of tho jJekald:— Tuakau.—Winning the play-oil with Pukekoho by three points to nil, Franklin i 3 this year's winner of the South Auckland Union's senior championship. Tho thirdgrado championship also comes to Franklin, whose team defeated Manukau in tho curtain-raiser to the senior game, bv five points to threo. Ideal woather for football prevailed, and tho matches wero witnessed by a largo attendanco of spectators. Tho senior game was decided bv sparklinir plav on the part of the Franklin backs. At tho outset, attempts to open up tho plav wero smothered by quick tackling, and long lino kicks were mainly responsible for wound gained by either side. Then Hira. at fiveeighthei for Franklin, managed to feint past an opponent, sending tho ball on to Groy ,<tnd J. Knralta, who outflanked tho opposition and raced round to score near the posits, The kick failed and at half-timo tho score was 3 —o in Franklin's favour. In the last few minutes Pukekoho handled in great style. but nimble defence by tho Franklin backs, in which Hira and Johnson showed outstanding resource and ouicknes. baulked theai every time. Mr. E. Barribnll was referee. The honour of holdine tho Hodges Shield until nes.t year falls to the Franklin team ns winner of the 6enior championship, while the third-grado team holds tho Dean Cup. Pukekohe won tho junior championship the previous week. It also holds the Foote Shield. Waiirku.—Waiuku retained the Massey Cup, defeating Manukau. tho challengers, by 23 points to 30. Tho Waiuku junior representatives beat Glenbrook by 14 points to 0 Pukekohe.—Grammar third grade. 16, Pukekohe juniors, 14. Pukekohe Post and Telegraph, Employees. 20. Pukekohe Railwaymen, 6. Schools: South Auckland. 13. Auckland Central, G. This game was a sparkling exhibition of Rugby. Murton scored two tries for South Auckland, Parris converting one and Lennox the other. Parris also kicked a penalty goal. For Auckland. Bickerton and Scott scored tries.

Opotikl.—There was an exceptionally big crowd to witneiis tho final match for tlio Apanui Shield, played between Oootiki. holders, and To Puka A southerly wind made play very tricky. The teams proved to be evenly matched and play _ was exciting from start to finish, there being many thrilling incidents. There was no score in the first half. In tho second half Opotiki proved tho stronger side, but, in spite of desperate efforts, could not score. Both Black. Opotiki. and Farmer. To Puke, nearly secured field goals, but the game ended in a draw, neither sido scoring. For Te Puke Farmer proved a tower of strength. Kingi, the Opotiki winger, saved several dangerous situations. The shield has chanced hands several times this season. Tauranga beat Te Puke and Rangitaiki then annexed the trophy, in turn being defentod bv Whakataite,_ which held off Apanui's challenge. Orotiki then beat WVakatiine. which defended the shield successfully against Galatea. Opotiki will now hold tlio shield until next year.

Tauranga.—A match for the Gil hey Cur>. played botween Athletics and Cadets Old Boys, was keenly contested, being won bv Athletics by 6 points to 5. R. Parkinson and W. Merriman scored for Athleti«3. and F. Cunliffe scored for Cadets Old Boys. C. Hana converting. P. Sanders, ono of the Cadets backs, had a bloodvessel in his left leg broken and he had to retire. N". Leslie, a Cadets forward, had an ankle iniured and had to go off. A match between junior A and B teams was won by A by 22 points to 9.

Taupiri.—Seniors: College Rifles, 30. Tattpiri, 3. Juniors: Morrinsville, 19, Taupiri. 6. Schoolboys: Huntly, 22. Taupiri, 6. The junior match, played at Huntly, was the final for the Wuikato lunior knock-out. R. Harris and Davidson scored tries for Taupiri, and Hallett secured a try for Morrinsville. At half-time the score was:—Taupiri. 6: Morrinsvillo,_ 3. Taupiri gained no further points, while Morrinsville scored three tries, credited to Hallett. Falkner and Earle. Heeps converting two aud kicking a penalty goal. The game ended with the score:—MorTinsville. 19; Taupiri. C. Mr. C. Davies was referee.

Matamata.—As a charity fixture the Matamata Rugby Union staged a match between the representative fifteen, which defended the Peace Cup. and the B team, which secured the Finlay Cud. by winning the 'semi-final and final Barnes, when the A team was defending the former cup again&t Thamoß and Hamilton. As the Finlay Cud is the>_ trophy awarded for the sub-union championship of the Waikato, great interest was taken in the match. Unfortunately, for various reasons, the Peace Cud team was short of Wilson. B. Marshall. Infflan, Ensor, Butt. Solomon and Mailiean. the first three of whom have played for Waikato this season. The same was an even one throughout - and after a keen contest it ended in a draw. Weston and Swan scored tries for tho A team and Amooro and Sweetman crossed for the B team. None of the four tries was converted. In the semi-final round for the Crystal Cud. third grade, Hinuera defeated Patetere bv 82 points to 0, and High School defeated Walton by 29 points to 6.

Te Kuiti.—ln tho final of the Pukeweka Shield contest, To Kuiti defeated Toko bv 23 points to 7. It was a hard-fought contest and honours were even until a late stage in the game, when To Kuiti scored in quick succession. For the winners Tilley kicked three penalties and scored a try from a run bv Evans. Barlow, who played a fine gari2. scored two brilliant tries from solo runs, one of which was converted by McLeod. Yates wns also responsible for a try. For Toko, Jimmy Wi gained a try and J. Wallace potted a goal. _ Mr._ N. Ingpon referee. Plavini at Pio Pio, tho To Kuiti juniors defeated Mangaotaki by 18 points to 11 in an Insurance Cup game. Te Awamulu.—The chief, attractions at Albert Park were contests between the Waipa junior representatives and Grafton (Auckland) junior's, and the final for tho Ballistite Cup between To Awamutu and Rovers seniors. In the junior same, which proved bright and keen throughout, Waina opened the scorins: with a try by Brennan. unconverted, in the first five minuteß. and a try by Hutchinson a few minutea later (also unconverted). Grafton's backs then threw tho ball about cleverly, and May. mis-kicking, allowed Bunting to score an easy try. which Dickey converted. After half-time the visitors were held on their twenty-five lino for some time, and from a scrum in front of the goal Waipa hooked tho ball, which went to Bell, who rotted a goal. Then tho Waipa forwards rushed plav to Grafton's line and Jowsey struggled over. Bell converted. Grafton attacked hotly, and after a strenuous 10 minutes Clarko bustled over for a try, which Dickey converted. Another Grafton forward attack lot .Burton over at the corner, but the kick failed. With every effort strained both teams nlaved good football, but there was no further score, Waipa winning by 15 points to 13. Mr. R. Annibal was referee. In the Balistite Cup game both tennis had several juniors to fill gaps. After 10 minutes of even play B. Quin kicked a penalty goal for To Awamutu, and a little later Scott scored a try. Just before half-time _ Thomson scored for Rovers, but the kick failed. After tho interval Elliot also scored a try for Rovers, unconverted, tho score thus beini? equalised. At the final bell tho score had not been altered, so extra time was T>lj-«d. and Te Awamutu was awarded an obstruction try, thu? winning the honours. Mr. Mfiddcrn was referee. Ngutunui and Ohauno juniors also hod a keen struggle for tho Doylo Cup. Ngutunui won bv 11 points (tries by Watson, 2. and McOnie. ono converted by Kewish) to 5 (a try by R. Spiers, converted by Vickers). Otorohanga.—Playing in tho final cf tho senior, knock-out competition Qlowa _ defeated the championship winner, United, by 15 points to 11. after a good game. Otewa took tho lead three minutefj after the commencement, when R. Meredith scored from the loose, and from then on. although the issue was offon in doubt, it maintained its advantage. Shortly after the opening try G. Warren landed a penalty goal from 40 yards out and at half-time the scoro wan 6—o in Otewa's favour. With tho sun agains* it Otcwa maintained the pressure and Meredith again came from the loose t° score wide out. United returned the play and from tho ruck D. Stuart went over in a hnndv position for W. Walters to convert. T. Tukero had a good shot from a penalty wide out, the ball falling just in front of the posts, whore a United player wns ruled offaide, and J. Kaniana coaled. United rushed tho olav, to Otewa's territory, and A. Finlay went over on the«blind side wido out. Maintaining: the pressure, the United pack caucht Joo Kite in possession and G. Awnniti crossed, making the score 12—11 in Otewa's favour. In tho deciding stages Meredith scored his third try. which was not converted. making tho O'ewa. 15. United. 11. Mr. G. Eassev was refeiee. Whangarei.—Owing to the representative match on Rugby Park there wero no senior fixtures. As a curtain-raiser to tho representative game, a junior representative match between Maoris and Pakehas wns won by tho former by 11 points to 0 after a fast, open game. The final game in tho seven-a-fiid-a primary rural schools' competition was played between Maungakaramea and Hikuraiigi, resulting in a draw, thero being no ecoro. The final in the seven-il-side bantam rural schools' competition between Waiotira and Onerahi, was won by Waiotira by 13 points to 0.
