AMATEUR 1 CHAMPIONSHIP MASSEY DEFEATS GOODHEW Tho Auckland provincial amateur billiards championship for the Billiards, Limited, Shield was continued on Saturday evening at Messrs. Billiards. Limited, showrooms, H. A. Massey defeating B. J. Goodhew by 27 points. The last-named was making his reappearance in amateur billiards after an absence of several years. The game attracted a largo attendance. Goodhew was first to find touch, making a run of 21 at his third visit to tho table. Massey mado a run of 22 soon after and was first to reach the 100 mark. His opponent, however, evened up the scores at his next visit with a nicely-played all-round break of 47. Massey, who was displaying good form, mado all-round breaks of 52 and 33 and gained a useful lead of 00 points at the lialf-way mark. A brief spell of safety tactics followed. Goodhew eventually gaining ground by compiling 2'J before failing. He was not favoured by the running of the balls and was left with many hard scoring positions. 'Ho notched a run of 20, Massey retaliating with breaks of 21 and 22. Massey maintained his useful lead and finally won a hardiought game by 27 points. Tlie final scores were:—H. A. Massey. 500; breaks, 22, 52, 33, 24. 22. E. J. Goodhew, -173; breaks, 21. 47, 29, 20. | E. V. Roberts, holder of tho shield, will play F. L. Blown this evening.
